The Director of the National Financial Investigation Agency in Equatorial Guinea, Baltasar Engonga, has been arrested following a scandal that has shaken the nation, as more than 400 videos were found showing intimate encounters with the wives and relatives of prominent individuals.

This discovery came during a financial fraud investigation involving Engonga, a 54-year-old economist. During a surprise search of his home and office by authorities, several discs were found containing recordings of his interactions with married women.

The leaked videos reportedly include encounters with high-profile figures, such as his brother’s wife, his cousin, the sister of the President of Equatorial Guinea, the wife of the Director General of Police, and around 20 ministers’ wives, among others.

According to reports, these recordings were made with the consent of the women involved, but the online leaks have sparked widespread outrage in local media.

A local platform, "Ahora EG," described this scandal as unprecedented in Equatorial Guinea’s history. Known by the nickname "Bello," Engonga allegedly filmed these intimate encounters, some of which took place in his office, even beside the national flag.

In an official statement, the government indicated that these actions aim to address behavior that tarnishes the country’s image. Through these steps, they aim to establish clear guidelines for public officials’ conduct to ensure a respectful work environment in both the public and private sectors.

The Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, stated that consensual sexual relations are not considered a crime unless coercion or violence is involved. He emphasized the need for a supportive environment that encourages victims to report any abuse.

He also noted significant health risks due to the potential spread of contagious diseases, heightening the concern for those involved and the broader community.

In response to this scandal, the Equatorial Guinean government has suspended all officials who engaged in such acts within ministry offices as part of a “zero tolerance” policy for behavior that compromises public service integrity.
