NEW: British police have launched an investigation after a 16-year old girl was virtually "gang r*ped" in the metaverse.
Why not just take the headset off?
According to the police, the girl is suffering emotional "trauma" similar to how someone would suffer who was actually r*ped.
UK Home Secretary James Cleverly says VR child r*pe is a growing problem that needs to be taken seriously.
"I know it is easy to dismiss this as being not real, but the whole point of these virtual environments is they are incredibly immersive," he said.
Some of these virtual assaults are reportedly taking place in 'Horizon Worlds,' a VR game operated by Mark Zuckerberg's META.
This should come as no surprise considering META has a history of alleged child abuse problems.
