The study suggests that there is a worrying association between receiving two doses of the covid-19 vaccine and a higher likelihood of developing long-term covid cases. The study was published in PLOS One, the researchers based on data from 487 and 371 users four weeks and six months, respectively, after infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, to estimate the incidence, features and predictors of prolonged covid cases among patients. The proportion of long-term covid Case Reports was 29.2% four weeks after infection, but this figure fell to 9.4% six months later, indicating that the symptoms subsided over time.

The researchers also found that the greater the severity of the infection, the greater the likelihood of long-term covid cases developing. The incidence four weeks after infection in mild/moderate cases was 23.4% compared to 62.5% in severe cases. After six months, the incidence of prolonged covid was significantly lower, reaching 7.2% for those with mild/moderate infection versus 23.1% in severe/critical cases. Exhaustion was the most reported symptom, while other symptoms included coughing, impaired mental functions or mental fog, and loss of sense and smell.

During the four-week period, patients were more likely to develop prolonged covid cases if they had pre-existing medical conditions, a higher number of symptoms during the acute phase of covid-19 infection, if their infection was more severe or led to hospitalization, or if they had received two doses of covid-19 vaccine.

Despite the Association of previous vaccination with prolonged covid cases, "no interaction effect of covid-19 vaccination and the severity of acute covid-19 infection on the pathogenesis of prolonged covid"was found.

This suggests that the previous vaccination was " independently associated with the long-term occurrence of covid," cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough explained in a recent post on Substack.
