Storm "Gerrit" destroys homes and cuts off electricity in the UK
On Thursday, the storm "Gerrit" arrived in the UK, accompanied by high winds and heavy snow to destroy homes, disrupt trains and cut off electricity to thousands of residents, across Scotland and parts of northern England.
Technicians worked amid winds of up to 80 miles per hour in some coastal areas of Scotland as they tried to restore electricity to homes and businesses that were cut off when tree branches fell on power lines.
After that, electricity returned to more than 31 thousand homes, but it was still cut off for about 14 thousand homes on Thursday morning.
The “Gerrit” also caused widespread disruption to train service across Scotland, with passenger traffic on some lines suspended until officials could carry out a full inspection of the rail network.
