British reconnaissance planes over Gaza to search for location of hostages

The New York Times

Britain will carry out surveillance flights over the Gaza Strip to help locate the hostages, in cooperation with the United States, the British defense minister said.

Two Pentagon officials and a New York Times analysis confirmed last month that the U.S. military was flying surveillance drones over the Gaza Strip to assist in hostage recovery efforts.

On Sunday, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps reiterated Hamas ' calls for the release of all hostages and said British planes would begin flying over Gaza "to assist ongoing rescue efforts".

Mr Shapps wrote on X that British hostages were still being held by Hamas. "Their freedom is our top priority,"he wrote.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Defense said that the aircraft "will be unarmed, have no combat role and will only be tasked with locating hostages". She added that "only information related to the rescue of hostages" will be shared with the "relevant authorities".
